About the Item
This low console table balances modern simplicity with a touch of the traditional. The lacquered table features a bronze-toned mirror top, a slatted floor shelf and waterfall sides inset with 19th-century panels carved in low relief with auspicious beasts from Tibetan mythology.
On one side, a carved landscape depicts the Tibetan wind horse, a riderless horse that gallops with the speed of the four winds and carries the wish-fulfilling jewel, radiating peace and harmony. On the other side is a similar landscape featuring an elephant, a gentle and powerful creature representing endurance, patience and enlightenment. The upper panels are carved with ribbon-clad books and scrolls, auspicious scholars' objects for wisdom and rank.
Table frame was designed around the 19th-century antique panels on either side. Mirror top is new.
