About the Item

A poetic and conceptually rich work by Faroese artist Alda Mohr Eyðunardóttir (b. 1997, Faroe Islands). “Gøtubrá” takes its title from the broadleaf plant that, in Faroese oral history, is said to possess magical powers. Rooted in this mythic reference, the work reflects on the intersections of language, silence, and cultural heritage, while transforming aluminum into a vessel of memory and narrative. Through her practice, Eyðunardóttir explores the fluidity of meaning and history, acknowledging how they continuously shape the present. She weaves together recognisable materials such as aluminum, wool, and film, relocating them in new contexts where language and translation become active participants in the work’s meaning. As she always creates in Faroese — a minority language in most contexts — Eyðunardóttir actively engages with the layered processes of interpretation, using recasting, subtitles, and translation as both artistic and conceptual tools. Her approach draws from feminist theory, craft traditions, and linguistic identity, exploring how personal and collective narratives intertwine. In “Gøtubrá”, material and myth merge: the aluminum surface reflects both the tangible and the ephemeral, embodying a dialogue between heritage and transformation, silence and articulation. This aluminum work will complement many interior styles. A Modern, Antique, Classic, Scandinavian or an Art Deco home decor.
