About the Item
A striking contemporary artwork by Russian-born American artist Alisa Baremboym (b. 1982), titled Untitled (Lox), 2010. Executed in archival pigment inks on cotton, this large-format work presents a vivid, repeating surface that suggests slices of cured fish—abstracted and magnified into a mesmerizing, bodily field. The piece blurs the boundaries between industrial, biological, and consumable forms—a hallmark of Baremboym’s conceptual practice. Signed and inscribed verso: Alisa Baremboym, Untitled (Lox), 2010. Label verso: 47 Canal, New York
This is an early and important example of the artist’s investigation into materiality, the body, and technological systems of production. Baremboym’s work was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial, and has been featured at MoMA PS1, the New Museum, and Kunsthalle Basel.
This large-scale, signed, early work with direct provenance from 47 Canal represents a collector-grade example from the foundational stage of her career. Comparable works by Biennial artists with similar provenance typically command $12,000–$15,000.
