About the Item
Inflated metal wall artwork, made from highly mirror polished stainless steel. The inflating metal is restricted in areas during forming to create a unique ‘crushed’ aesthetic. As you move around the artwork the myriad of reflections change and distort producing a range of constantly changing effects that shift reality. Each piece is individually sculpted using our metal inflation process, resulting in a unique and individual piece each time. Each piece is hand-made, numbered and signed in the UK. All welds are extensively blended and polished by highly skilled craftspeople to produce a wonderful, flawless mirror finished piece of wall sculpture
Stephen Newby Studio pioneered the process of inflating metal in 1996 and he is the original creator of the process of inflating metal.
The artwork can be produced to bespoke sizes ranging up to 250cm long and 125cm wide

Stephen Newby Studio
Stephen Newby is the founder and original creator of ‘inflated metal’. Newby’s first inflated metal chair appeared in Blueprint Magazine in November 1995. He patented the inflated metal process in 2001 and ever since has been perfecting his art form. With this unique and innovative process, Newby’s work has attracted some of the greatest talent in interior design and architecture, delivering highly innovative solutions through his production company 'fullblOwn' to clients such as Zaha Hadid Architects and Louis Vuitton worldwide and more recently Bottaga Venetta for high concept interiors, large-scale installations and architectural design. As a celebration of this pioneering work Stephen Newby Studio has created a range of legacy furniture pieces from over the past 25 years and made them available in a limited edition range. Along with new works , this range is available exclusively on 1st Dibs.
