About the Item

Bowl of Plums on Rose by Veronica Benning is an oil pastel on acid-free paper, presented in a custom frame and mat. Featuring a cubist abstraction of a traditional still life, the piece uses warm tones and geometric forms to deconstruct the subject, creating a structured yet expressive composition in the timeless medium of oil pastel. Veronica Ann Benning (1947-2013), based in Fort Myers, FL, was known for her pastel drawings mixed media paintings. She earned a BFA from Washington University and an MFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. Benning taught painting at the Portland School of Art (now Maine College of Art) and the University of Southern Maine. After moving to Florida in 1993, she continued to paint regularly. Her work reflected her connection to the Maine landscape and her lifelong exploration of visual perception. Paper attached to verso of frame identifies the piece, date of realization, and identity of the artist. Piece is in excellent condition and rests in a versatile square frame.
