About the Item
"TIMEWARP" continuously changing wall-mounted artwork.
A large, wall-mounted, artwork that also tells the time if you look closely.
Every minute: one, two , three or four numbers change as time changes.
This creates a new glowing red pattern, a new artwork placed against the black backdrop.
There are 1440 minutes in a day.
Timewarp displays 1440 different patterns in 24 hours.
Some number combinations have a more powerful effect. Some more subtle.
When four numbers at the same time change , for example: from 23.59 to 00.00: that has the biggest effect.
This creates a very visually interesting and dynamic artwork.
The digital numbers are placed in a ring. mimicking the position of numbers on a classic analog clock.
“TIMEWARP” pays homage to the first digital alarm-clocks.
At the time a revolutionary way of telling time.
Red digital LED-numbers projected against a black background.
Cased in a hardwood housing.
I used, and enhanced that visual language to create something new.
The digital clockwork is covered by a mirror-less glass plate.
The artwork is cased in a beautiful solid pressed bamboo frame.
The bamboo is sanded and oiled, bringing out the caramel color and grain.
Inspired by insomnia:
In my youth when I could not sleep, ideas keeping me awake, staring at my alarm-clock. The only thing visible in the night where the shining red numbers.
Every minute the time would change.
I did not see the numbers, but patterns and lines changing shape each minute.
This childhood memory inspired my to use and enhance that imagery.

JAN PAUL
Creator of objects, eye-candy, and conversation-pieces. “JAN PAUL” is created as a platform to channel new, conceptual, autonomous, and experimental designs.
Crossing over boundaries between design and art. No boxes, borders or demands. “I want to create with no concessions and fully explore and crystallize the ideas I have. One idea turns into a clean sleek designed table , the other into a sculptural object without a specific function. Reoccurring themes and directions of thought are the beauty of multiplicity, the marvel hidden in everyday objects, reinterpretation of icons ,exploring the boundaries of new materials, creating the new from the existing.“ The collection consists of objects, furniture, lighting and functional art, made in small series, limited editions and one-of-a-kind’s.Organically growing and carefully directed. The small and exclusive collection is produced in the Netherlands. All work for sale through the website and selected dealers and galleries.
