About the Item
Pair of small carved walnut doors, 16th century, central Italy
This pair of small doors was made in the sixteenth century, in central Italy, in carved walnut. The decoration provides for each door two columns carved on the sides, with base and capital that support a round arch with central architrave carved. On the sides of this architectural element are carved two figures that rest their feet on the capitals and, bent, carry with their arms raised cornucopia full of fruit and flowers. The figures, male and female, are all different from each other, dressed in only drapery and shirtless and refer to a taste related to ancient Rome and the classical era. The mantle that covers them, as moved by the air, continues swollen over the back. The carver uses this trick to occupy the corner with a circular element, confer movement and dynamism and increase the naturalism of the representation.
These doors probably come from a cabinet in which they had the function of closing doors of a compartment for storing objects. They can be used to restore their original function or they can be displayed as decorative objects, hanging on the wall.

Pair of Circa 1750 Walnut Wood Entry Doors from Spain
Located in Dallas, TX
Spanish furniture and architecturals of the 18th century, such as this pair of walnut wood entry doors, were highly influenced by French stylings. Hand-carved circa 1750, the doors feature deep, sinuous moldings, reminiscent of the curvaceous motifs seen during the reign of Louis XV. The amazing doors have a rich brown patina that accentuates the charm of the carvings, which are also enhanced by the visible screws used to join the pieces of walnut wood.
Comprised of five carved panels per door, each carving is similar: a rough rectangle with rounded ends and barbed counter curves. The three smaller panels are orientated horizontally, surrounding the two larger and vertically arranged panels. A thickly scrolled bronze pull can be seen on each door, also functioning as door knockers (the door on the right has commensurate wear from the pull striking the wood). Because these Spanish entry doors...
