About the Item

An antique pair of stunning French Baroque painted and partial – gilt carved architectural elements or wall panels, in good condition. These wall décor ornaments are very ornate and decorated with large rosettes, fruit garlands and scrolls. One fragment is larger than the other. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1720, France.

Each piece features a cartouche shaped frame, richly moulded with a host of Baroque style detailing, including putti, acanthus leaves, and scrolling forms. Each applique is centred with a similarly shaped mirror, and each is adorned below with twin gilt bronze light branches, with each branch modelled in an ornately scrolling and foliate manner.
