About the Item

This is a absolutely fabulous, very high quality, 18th century oil on canvas painting of a young girl. The original was by Pierre Gobert and this is a very fine example by a follower from the same period. The frame is later but works with the painting perfectly. Large decorative size and in extremely clean condition. Height 74cm Width 61cm

A half length portrait of Thomas Fairfax turned slightly left but looking at the viewer, wearing armour and a white collar, all in a architectural oval with a flag leaning against he left above decorative vignette of a battle scene. Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Baron Fairfax of Cameron (January 17, 1612- November 12,1671), Parliamentary Commander-in-Chief. Perhaps the most accomplished Parliamentarian officer, Fairfax was appointed Lord General of the New Model Army after his victory at Marston Moor, 1644. His decisive string of victories, beginning with the battle of Naseby in 1645, won the Civil War for Parliament. Extremism alarmed him and he refused to serve on the court which tried the King or to lead the army into Scotland in 1650. He retired from public life until 1660, when he supported General Monck...

A very fine and Large Italian 18th-19th century oval-shaped oil on canvas titled "The Triumph of Venice" After the original work by Paolo Veronese (Venice, 1528-1588). The original of this painting hangs in the Palazzo Ducale, Venice. The 'Ricci' coloration suggests a late 17th-early 18th century date. In 1715 Charles de la Fosse advised Ricci to paint only "Veroneses and no more Riccis", Venice, circa 1800. Measures: Height: 45 1/4 inches (115 cm). Width: 29 inches (73.7 cm).
