About the Item

19th century Italian Grand Tour set of silvered bronze portrait medallions of The 12 Roman Emperors, Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasian, Titus, Domitian set in a oval. Three larger medals mounted in the center, one showing the Battle of the Tritons, another with four poets, likely including Dante and Ovid wearing laurel leaves. The third a medal of the Roman Colosseum by Tomasso Mercandetti 1758-1821. All executed in wonderful detail. All set into a silk mat in a neoclassical style gilt wood frame. A handsome and historical item for the library, office or den. Measures: 28 inches high 21 wide 2 deep.
