About the Item

A beautiful tile panel with abstract shapes in red and purple colors. This panel consists of 20 tiles, handmade by Antonietta Capecchi according the traditional Japanese Raku technique. Raku ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. It is traditionally characterised by being hand-shaped rather than thrown; fairly porous vessels, which result from low firing temperatures, lead glazes. The pieces are removed from the kiln while still glowing hot. In the traditional Japanese process, the fired raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed to cool in the open air. The familiar technique of placing the ware in a container filled with combustible material is not a traditional Raku practice. Raku techniques have been modified by contemporary potters worldwide. Size each tile: inches 5.9 inches (15 cm) width x 5.9 inches (15 cm) height x 0.39 inches (1 cm) thick. Size of the panel 23.62 inches (60 cm) width x 29.53 inches (75 cm) height x 0.39 inches (1 cm) thick.
