About the Item

A later and large execution of ‘Spring ‘ of the Four Seasons series by Francois Boucher in the Rococo taste , the originals around 1755. (and for Madame Pompadour). A Shepherd converses with recumbent maiden amidst the sheep. The scene in delicate pastels and details, is suggestive of an amorous rendezvous. The original or one of the versions painted is in The Frick Museum in New York. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories, and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century. elan. His art typically forgoes traditional rural innocence to portray scenes with a definitive style of eroticism as his mythological scenes are passionate and intimately amorous
