About the Item
Ca. late 18th - early 19th century miniature tempera on panel hand - painting of Dona Maria I (Maria Francisca Isabel Josefa Antónia Gertrudes Rita Joana, born on 17 December 1734, also known as Maria the Pious in Portugal and Maria the Mad in Brazil, was Queen of Portugal from 24 February 1777 until her death in 1816 in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 81. Maria was the first undisputed queen regnant of Portugal and the first monarch of Brazil. You may read an interesting story about life of this woman in Wikipedia.
Period gilt frame with original faceted glass cover and her monogram painted on the back side plate. Unframed measures 7 cm x 5.5 cm. Weight : 39grams.
Fine condition for age, with minor scratches and chips on glass part.
