About the Item
Botanical photogravures by Karl Blossfeldt (German, b. 1914 - d. 1932), "Urformen der Kunst", First Edition 1929, Berlin. Mounted in simple black frames. The frames are a perfect compliment to the almost abstract botanical images. Quite impressive when hung as a group, yet even just one, a pair or smaller grouping has a singular presence.
Set of 22, can be purchased individually for $595. each.
Karl Blossfeldt was a well-known artist, teacher, sculptor and photographer; best known for his closeup photographs of plant life.
Blossfeldt believed that 'The plant must be valued as a totally artistic and architectural structure.' Modern and organically beautiful, his photographs of plants, flowers and seed heads are as appealing today as they were when they were first introduced to the public in his first landmark book, "Urformen der Kunst", (Art Forms in Nature), 1929.
It was his firm belief that only through the close study of the intrinsic beauty present in natural forms that contemporary art would find its true direction.

Karl Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt was a German photographer, sculptor, teacher and artist who worked in Berlin, Germany. He is best known for his close-up photographs of plants and living things, published in 1929 as Urformen der Kunst. Blossfeldt was inspired, as was his father, by nature and how plants grow. He believed that "the plant must be valued as an artistic and architectural structure." Among his students at the Berlin Arts and Crafts School was Heinz Warneke. From 1924, Blossfeldt was a professor at the Vereinigte Staatsschulen für freie und angewandete Kunst (United States School for Fine and Applied Art) in Berlin, Germany.
