"Clotho La Fileuse" A circular parcel-gilt Renaissance Revival Mythological Limoges enamel on copper plaque, painted in Grisaille on an Aubergine Ground, highlighted with gilding and a polychromed frieze. In original mahogany frame Signed E. Blancher (1855-1935), circa 1890. After the Famous French Limousin's enamelers from the 16th-17th century. Clotho La Fileuse is one of the three Moires. The role of the Moire is to take care of the Mortals Lives. They give birth and when time has come, put them to death. The Greeks thought that their life was actually a thread (from which comes the phrase "life hangs by a thread") that the Moire wove, worked and then cut. Clotho weaves the sons of mortals life, Lachesis works the sons of mortals and Atropos cuts the threads of mortals. In short, men are born, make their lives and die by fate: the one that Moires decide. Clotho is the spinner, Lachesis the dispatcher and Atropos the relentless. Clotho weaves the sons who give birth to men, Lachesis polishes the sons who make the life of men, and finally Atropos cuts the threads with a pair of scissors when the moment of death has arrived for men. Zeus appealed to the moires to change his destiny and that of his brothers and sisters during the war against the Titans ... Because remember, there is only one thing that the gods dread: Destiny ... Fate is also implacable with mortals: any request of a mortal is rejected by the Moires. Atropos, in particular, is the only one of the 3 moires whose will is unshakeable. Moire is also considered in Greek mythology as the "goddess of relentless destiny".
