Contemporary floral mixed-media panel by Elodie Blanchard American, 2022 Height 79cm, width 56cm, depth 4cm The combination of unexpected materials makes this wall painting a unique work of art. Hand-made by Elodie Blanchard a French contemporary artist and designer, the piece celebrates the natural world. The textile panel is titled ‘Bouquet 23’ and comes from the designer’s ‘Bouquet’ collection. Repurposed scraps of textile, mylar balloons, snack packaging, and plastic bags have been used to create this piece. The individual mixed-media pieces are carefully arranged and stitched together to portray a charming floral composition. Flowers in shades of purple, blue, orange, and yellow are mixed with vivid green foliage. The shimmering gold and silver snack packaging and mylar balloons add an eye-catching element to the piece. Some parts of Blanchard’s piece are three-dimensional such as the stigma of the pink flower in the bottom right. The textile panel is framed in an elegant wooden frame. Elodie Blanchard’s studio is based in New York where she creates collections for public spaces, galleries, and institutions. Her work has been displayed in various cities around the USA such as Chicago and New York. Blanchard aims to transform commonplace materials into unusual and collectible works of art, which the piece in Mayfair Gallery’s collection is a superb example of.
