About the Item
A beautiful stained glass panel with a lovely floral decoration. This stained glass window was handmade in an unknown studio in Belgium. Heavy tones of gray and lead are combined with deep colors of red and blue in stylized flowers such as zinnias and poppies. Signed Joop van den Broek.
Joop van den Broek (Amsterdam, April 12, 1928 – Amsterdam, August 16, 1979) was a Dutch glass designer, glazier, glass painter, muralist, and sculptor.
Joop van den Broek began as a painter at the Amsterdam Municipal Electricity Company and worked in a furniture factory. From 1944 to 1949, he studied at the Institute for Applied Arts Education and the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He was a student of Willem van den Berg, Jaap Luttge, and Gerard Westermann. From 1951 to 1966, Joop worked as a glazier and designer at the Amsterdam glass company Tetterode. In 1968, Joop van den Broek and his son Norbert founded their own glass artwork production company, Atelier70, in Amsterdam. Van den Broek was a guest lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and a member of the Painters' Association Het Venster and the New Sculpture League.
In 1951, he received the Willink van Collen Prize.
1965, he won the Prix de la Critic, together with André Volten.
