Herbier specimens were collected and pressed from plants found around the world. In the late 19th to Early 20th Century collecting herbier was a popular pastime for affluent Europeans; collectors spent hours drying, pressing, and mounting specimens they found on their travels. Most of them have the original paper strip mounts and the names of the plants either written on the sheet or on an attached label.
