About the Item
Pair of Neoclassical and Grand Tour style reliefs depicting mythological scenes, Italy, 1950s. These medallions are made of molded bakelite, with a chrome-plated golden metal frame and brass. They depict scenes from ancient mythology, very much in the style of the bronze creations of the sculptor Pier Jacopo Alari Bonacolsi (Gazzuolo, 1460-1528), also called Antico, from the late 15th and early 16th Centuries, who sculpted and made works using different materials and captured legends and stories of ancient civilizations (such as "Hercules and the Nemean Lion", 15th Century). Very much in the style of the neoclassical creations of the Danish sculptor Vettel Thorvaldsen (Copenhagen, 1770-1844) of the early 19th Century, who made bronze scenes representing angels, cherubs, allegories and mythological characters.
