An exceptional and rare French signed hand painted ceramic plaque with a signed heavenly scene by H Boulenger
Cie, Choisy dating from the 19th century. The large oval shaped white ceramic plaque is very finely painted to the front edges with a heavenly scene portraying two angels delivering the body of Jesus to God with the gates of heaven in the cloud behind and a large bird of prey perched next to him. God leans forward and kisses his son on the forehead. The earth below is shown as a rising sun over the sea and behind a large rock. The scene has a painted artist’s initial to the lower right-hand side with impressed H.B Choisy marks and various number marks to the base.
Provenance: acquired in the British art market.
In good condition with light rubbing and minor scratches, particularly to the reverse side. A stunning piece.
