About the Item
Hunters, pair of panels. Porcelain. Possibly Germany, 19th century.
Pair of wall plaques with metal pieces to hang on the top and a polychrome figurative decoration on the front, in relief. One shows a horseman dressed in furs, accompanied by a fox (probably), and the other shows a woman, also on horseback, hunting a feline (possibly a tiger). Their style is reminiscent of porcelain pieces made in Meissen in the 19th century. ·

Pair of Miniatures, Frans van de Casteele
Kasteels
aka Francesco da Castello
By Francesco da Castello
Located in Madrid, ES
Frans van de Casteele (Kasteels) called Francesco da Castello (Brussels, ca. 1541 - Rome, 1621)
Adoration of the shepherds
Crowning with thorns
First decade of the 17th century.
Tempera and gold on parchment, 290 x 240 mm (with frame).
Original wooden frame with trimmed silver foil applications; in the corners, medallions with the four evangelists.
The two refined miniatures of the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Crowning with Thorns are works of the artist's full maturity, dating from the first decade of the 17th century, characterized by formal simplification and pure colors in the invoice of the garments that stand out from the eburoral incarnations of the characters.
Among the numerous motifs comparable to those of other miniatures by Francesco da Castello, the small medallions with the Evangelists barely outlined on a golden background, closely recall the miniatures, of reduced dimensions, inserted in the compartments of the frame of the altar with the Mysteries del Rosario, as well as those of another box with compartments with the Tree of Jesse...

Pair of Giltwood Mirrors with Porcelain, Rococo, 18th Century
By Matthias Lock
Located in Madrid, ES
Pair of "cornucopias" with mirrors, nearly identical (except for details in the leaves of the frames), carved and gilded wood. Inside, the main mirror has moldings that draw curves and straight areas, volutes and other elements. The elaborate decoration of the wall mirrors is based on grotesques in the lower part, from which plant elements emerge that are prolonged, accompanied by hangings, towards the upper part by the sides, with openwork details. Above, the crests have circular spaces, flanked by birds perched with its wings partly extended, and surrounded by elaborate frames that, like the rest of the pieces, have architectural elements (scrolls, smooth oval mirrors), plant elements and shapes that remind Rococo rockery.
Clearly, the examples are included within the Rococo, counting, even with the slight asymmetry presented by the decorative motifs of the same and that slight difference between both examples. It is possible to find similarities in the design of these cornucopias with different engravings and works by Matthias Lock...
