About the Item
This is one of Pierre Olofssons important works. It was created in 1964 for the Post Office in Kiruna, North of Sweden. The wall sculpture covered a long wall at the office and consists of seven separate units. The sculpture is seen on a whole page in Millroths book about the life works of Pierre Olofsson.
The wall sculpture was, after that the Post office in Kiruna closed, moved to the main Postoffice in Tomteboda, Solna outside Stockholm.
Every section of the sculpture is made out of Pierre Olofssons characteristic circular forms in happy colours.
This section is mounted on a board but the artwork was originally mounted direct on a wall and this can easily be done again.
Pierre Olofsson was one of Swedens most important artist in this era and he created many paintings and sculptures for public institutions. Pierre Olofsson is also represented at many museums.
The way he works with bright colours and shapes that resembles anything you think of is a typical for the arts of the 1960s. This piece of art could easily fit into any James Bond movie.
