About the Item
This wall decoration is the base of the earthen wall of an old Japanese house.
In Japan, it's called "komai."
It was originally part of the earthen wall of a house built around the Meiji period.
It was a heavy wall with a earth coating on the surface, but we cut out a section of the wall, peeled off the earth, and disassembled it completely. While bamboo is often used for interior bases, this one is made from hard wooden sticks like tree branches.
It is believed that bamboo was in short supply in the area where this house was built, so it is thought that the base was made by weaving together tree branches and other materials.
All the disassembled materials were cleaned, painted black with traditional Japanese paint, and reassembled using old rope.
Its large size of 240cm in height makes it a very striking piece to display in a tall space. It can also be displayed horizontally.
A piece of wood is attached to the back so that it can be hung either vertically or horizontally. Place it on the wall so that it can be hooked onto the piece of wood.
We recommend decorating the wall substrate of a traditional Japanese house as art and creating a space filled with natural materials.
