About the Item
This is a huge piece of old Japanese paper, it is thought that they were laid on the floors of old Japanese houses or used for sericulture.
To increase the paper's strength, several sheets of washi paper were glued together to create thickness.
It is painted with persimmon tannin, a traditional Japanese paint, and repeatedly repaired, with new paper then pasted on. Over time, the pieces have transformed into a work of abstract art.
Painted on the back of the paper is paper that was used for ledgers in ancient Japan, and the neat arrangement of these sheets also forms a work of art in itself.
It is so large that it may not be easy to hang it on a wall, but when it is, it is a spectacular sight, with natural changes such as color and wrinkles harmonizing in exquisite balance. There is a hole on the right edge due to deterioration, but this also contributes to the design.
While hanging it on the wall is recommended, the sturdy paper is also suitable for a variety of uses, such as laying it out as a rug in a large space, displaying a vase on top of it, or hanging it from the ceiling as a partition.
Since the design is different on each side, it can also be displayed on both sides.
