About the Item

The map is an object of art and wall decoration, made of "vegetable-tanned" leather, which is an ancient tanning process carried out only in Tuscany in Italy, handcrafted in old barrels and colored only with natural tannins from plants and flowers, completely hypoallergenic, without the use of chemicals. and chrome. This leather has the distinction of having a high thickness and is particularly valuable. The map can be hung as a simple picture since it is coupled with a polycarbonate sheet, that allows easy hanging. The Memphis map, is a one-of-a-kind laser-cut piece on vegetable-tanned leather, whose design process is characterized by a profound mix of manual artistic creation and technological innovation. Frank&Frank's exclusive Italian art design project, features eye-catching laser-engraved city maps on leather. These maps are symbolic and artistic elements, creating a connection with their environment, whether it is your home or your office. Frank&Frank is committed to conveying the excitement of seeing the world through the lens of passion for designing custom leather city maps. The city of Memphis was founded on May 22, 1819, by John Overton, James Winchester and Andrew Jackson, who would later become president of the United States. They named the city after the ancient Egyptian capital on the Nile, known for its grandeur and monumental architecture. Throughout the 19th century, Memphis developed as a major trading center for cotton, grown on the region's large plantations and heavily dependent on the labor of African American slaves. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated here and is also renowned for his cultural contributions, particularly music. It has hosted many important blues musicians, including Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Isaac Hayes, and Elvis Presley. This is just a snapshot of Memphis' legendary past, reflecting its importance in American history and culture. No "vegan skin," much less products that are passed off as green but are actually high in pollution. The company uses only Italian vegetable-tanned leather and the chain of suppliers is really small, we use 95 percent chrome-free tanned leather and "we are 100 percent" without compromise. Vegetable-tanned leather is naturally more expensive and more manual skill is required. The real green choice: no vegan leather, choosing vegetable-tanned leather is sustainable, and it is very well understood when referring to the circularity of leather: "No animals are raised to make leather." It is a waste product of the meat industry. In a circular economy perspective, nothing would be worse than throwing away animal hides instead of processing them.
