About the Item

A stunning and stylish French Madoura limited edition earthenware Danseurs wall plaque (A.R. 387) by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1974) and dating from 1956. The round plaque with slightly squared off corners is of domed shape. It is potted in white earthenware clay with the front decorated in colored engobe and glaze with stylized figures of two dancers, one holding a ribbon or scarf. The scene is simplistic yet effective and the figures are formed using tones of black with blue halo edging contrasting against a cream glazed ground. The plaque has the Empreint Originale de Picasso and Madoura imprint marks to the base and has also got an integral ceramic wall hanging loop. These plaques were not edition marked however are recorded as having been produced in an edition of 500. Provenance: Alain Ramié Catalogue raisonné Picasso céramiques d'edition N°387. Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with minor lower edge wear which appears to be in the making.
