About the Item

Decorate a kitchen wall, breakfast nook, or restaurant with this exquisite pair of antique wall chargers. Crafted in France circa 1870, each large round porcelain plate is hand-painted with an elaborate still life scene celebrating French culinary tradition. One depicts a rustic table set with oysters on the half shell, a sliced lemon, a glass of white wine, and a bottle resting amid evergreen foliage. The companion plate presents a dessert tableau featuring a wheel of cheese under a glass cloche, a ceramic jug, grapes, and walnuts set against a richly patterned blue floral background. Both compositions are signed “Vivien,” rendered in vivid enamel colors and framed with gilt edges. These masterful works of art embody the charm and refinement of 19th-century French decorative porcelain. Each plate is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with the original hanging devices on the reverse for easy display. Measures: 20" diameter.
