About the Item

A sensational and unique pair of Venetian early 18th century carved giltwood wall decor, circa. 1720 . The pair depict theatrical scenes of a play. One of the scenes is of a man in a robe speaking to a maiden holding a knife in front of warriors with a shield and spear. The other side shows a man holding a stake with an impaled head, and three ladies playing musical instruments. The other scene is of a king seated on a throne elevated on a platform with a woman kneeling in respect. Three other figures are behind her have inquisitive expressions. Behind the king are two additional male figures in classical attire. Wonderfully decorative and detailed throughout.
