About the Item

A charming giltwood framed French pastel piece “Young Lady with a Dove”. The subject matter includes a young woman with a warm smile in a blue dress holding a dove closely. Linen backing. Originally from the French School circa 18th Century. Created in the style of artist Jean-Frédéric Schall. This artist specialized in a “fêtes galantes” style of genre scenes and portraits. This genre often depicted idealized female subjects and dancers. This piece is possibly by Schall and bears a striking resemblance to a painting of his. Though it has not been substantiated as such. A partial section of paper remaining on the back contains some illegible script, written in French. Otherwise, no known markings are present. In very good condition for its age. Some gentle wear consistent with age and use. Minor wear on sections of the frame. This beautiful artwork would add character and authenticity in a traditional setting as well as adding an antique element in a more contemporary or minimal setting.
