About the Item
A delightful and expressive 19th-century hand-colored lithograph featuring a featuring a humorous scene of children teasing and laughing at a masked character with an exaggerated long nose. The figures are beautifully rendered with fine detail, typical of French satire and genre illustration of the period.
The composition is full of mischief and character – one child points and laughs, another blows a horn behind the group, while the masked figure reacts dramatically. This lively storytelling makes the piece charming, collectible, and a wonderful conversation starter.
Signed L. Boilly who was a well-known French artist famous for his humorous and expressive character studies.
It was lithographed by François-Séraphin Delpech (1778–1825) who was French lithographer and publisher in Paris active in the early 19th century and worked with many prominent artists of the time, including Louis-Léopold Boilly
The artwork features wonderful detail and warm tones, with visible small crack at the right corner of the paper that adds to its antique appeal.
