About the Item
This fine watercolour of amor was painted onto thick watercolour paper at the beginning of the 20th century. It depicts an elegant lady in an extravagant fur trimmed striped coat holding cupid with his hands tied up behind his back on a leash. The lady is wearing a hat with little wings and high heeled boots - the wings are the attributes of psyche. Psyche makes cupid who has his little head bent down walk in front of her. In her right hand she is holding a whip behind her back. Cupid's quiver with all the arrows is hanging from her left arm. Amor's bow is tucked under Psyche's right arm. The odd couple is depicted in front of a large black cannon on wheels.
The watercolour is signed in the lower right corner with unidentified black ligated initials.
