About the Item
This is an exceptional original drawing by renowned Italian Renaissance master Camillo Procaccini (signed lower right with initials), born in Parma in 1561 and active mainly in Milan until his death in 1629.
Executed in charcoal on paper, the drawing depicts an expressive and serene image of Jesus Christ, rendered with remarkable delicacy and spiritual depth. The reverse side of the sheet contains an unfinished study of Christ’s torso, offering a fascinating insight into Procaccini’s creative process.
The artwork is presented in a specially designed plexiglass display stand, allowing both sides of the sheet to be viewed- a unique and elegant feature that highlights the dual compositions.
Procaccini was one of the leading artists of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, celebrated for his paintings and frescoes found throughout Italy- including in the cathedrals of Milan (organ shutters), Piacenza (nave and apse frescoes), and Bologna. His works are represented in major museums and collections worldwide.
The drawing remains beautifully preserved despite its age of nearly 500 years.
