Landscape Drawing, Black Marker Boat and Harbor Scene, France 1966. This vintage black felt-tip pen drawing from 1966 captures a scene of the Cape Antibes, located on the French Riviera. In the bottom right corner, the artwork is signed and dated by the artist, "Le Page 66," marking its authenticity. The artwork delicately illustrates the quaint village, characterized by its clustered rooftops and renowned monuments : the Grimaldi Castle and Notre Dame de la Platea Cathedral. The Grimaldi Castle officially became the Picasso Museum in 1966 (when the drawing was created), to honor the famous artist, who had been offered, in 1946, to use part of the building as his studio. It was the first museum dedicated to the artist. Following his stay, Picasso left 23 paintings and 44 drawings on deposit with the city of Antibes. In the foreground of the drawing, the harbor is lined with small, moored boats, their masts creating a rhythmic pattern against the calm waters. The scene gently slopes upwards, leading the eye to the background where the hill of La Garoupe stands, crowned by the iconic lighthouse. The composition perfectly reflects the elegance and tranquility of the French Riviera in the 1960s. The background paper shows slight foxing in some areas, a natural effect of its age. The artwork is mounted on an original gray mat, which also bears subtle signs of aging. The drawing is framed in its original golden wooden frame.
