About the Item

Beautifully realized, this depiction of a male nude leaning against a rock formation shows the stylization characteristic of the Modern or Art Deco movement of the 1920s, as well as indications of fractured surfaces and tilted planes associated with Cubism. The artist was known for his Surrealist works in the late 19th century, and was associated with the mystical, religiously-saturated Salons de Rose-Croix, which was featured recently in a major exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. (Dimensions include matte and frame.)
