About the Item
Widely admired for has mastery of the human figure and his ability to draw the nude male in particular, Alexander (or Alejandro) Cañedo here depicts a male figure sitting high on a horizontal plank, as if he is surveying a construction site. The artist was the author of "How Cañedo Draws the Figure" and was known for his illustrations for science fiction magazines such as "Astounding." Born Alejandro de Cañedo to an American mother and Mexican father, and trained in France and Italy, the artist was a remarkable prodigy from an early age, exhibiting in Rome and New York starting in the 1920s and 1930s. He had solo exhibitions for Walter P. Chrysler's gallery in New York and for Gump's in San Francisco and ultimately settled in California. Dimensions include matte and frame; visible drawing is 7 inches high by 6.5 inches wide.
