A very good 19th century American Classical Period / Empire Period scissor-cut silhouette by Auguste Edouart, depicting the full length figure of a prominent New York gentleman with spectacles in hand, gazing out the window from a partially hand-coloured parlour interior. Set within its original & highly figured bird's eye maple frame & burnished gilt fillet.
Signed & dated lower left, 'Aug. Edouart, fecit 1845, 369 Broadway, New York'.
The reverse referencing a family provenance purportedly associated with a collection having once belonged to a Civil War officer by the name of Nathan Hale...
