Figure #3 by Jean Olds, signed and dated 1984. A figure of a curvaceous woman outlined in green against a vibrant yellow background. Gouache on reversed woodblock on rice paper, matted without frame. Jean Olds was an American artist known for her work in collage and mixed media. Born in 1917, she was recognized for her innovative use of materials, combining fabric and paper to create vibrant and textured collages. She studied with many renowned artists and was a life member of the National Academy of Design, where she also taught in local schools. Her artwork often involved flat mixed-media sculptures, demonstrating her skill in integrating various elements into cohesive and expressive pieces. Olds received numerous awards for her art, which was exhibited at various art exhibitions over the years. Some of her notable works. Olds’ work often combines bold colors and expressive brushstrokes to evoke a sense of movement and energy. Her pieces have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
