About the Item
This ethereal drawing by Dunbar Beck demonstrates his mastery of the human figure, with antecedents in Renaissance and Pre-Raphaelite paintings. Beck was one of America's most accomplished and successful muralists, and he painted a WPA-sponsored mural in the post office in Danvers, Massachusetts, and a series of murals for the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair, among many others. He was also commissioned by Steinway to paint a series of scenes on a piano that the company gave to the White House during the Roosevelt administration.
