Mid Century Modern Still Life with Jug and Vase by Ramon Prats (1928-2003)
By Giorgio Morandi, Ramon Prats
Located in New Windsor, NY
Ramon Prats (1928-2003) vase and jug still life oil paint on masonite. Circa 1971. Signed and dated lower right, Prats, '71. A peaceful rendering and reminiscent of Morandi's solitary still life paintings. Prats' stippling effect with the brush or palette knife has created a beautifully tactile and textured painting. Light and dark contrast of the violet cylinder next to the curvaceous jug. A wonderful piece. the framing treatment consists of a simple flat black wood profile molding. The piece is in good overall condition with minor losses around the corners and edges of the work. No other major paint losses. No visible crazing, water damage or restorations. Some scuffs, dings and losses to the black frame. Wear consistent with age. Approximate overall dimensions with frame are 1.5" deep x 16" wide x 24.75" high. The approximate measurements of the actual work on masonite are 15.63" wide x 24.25" high. Bio from AskArt: Ramon Prats Born: 1928 - Spain Died: 2003 - Mexico Known for: Abstract mixed-media explosion theme, still life paintings Biography from Waddington's Spanish-born Ramón Prats was appointed as the official artist and illustrator for "El País" newspaper in Havana, Cuba when he was 15 years old. After his studies in Cuba, Prats moved to New York where he studied at the Art Students League of New York. He regularly exhibited at the Associated American Artists (AAA) Gallery until 1955 and also at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Prats moved to Mexico in 1956 and was pivotal in spearheading the development of modern art there until his death at age 74. Biography from Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum Ramon Prats (American, b. Spain, 1928-2003) developed his talent for painting while he was a child. At age 15, he was appointed the official artist and illustrator for El País newspaper in Havana, Cuba, where his family lived at the time. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in Santo Domingo and at the School of Graphic Arts in Havana, Cuba. Upon completing his studies in Cuba, Prats moved to New York, where he studied at the Art Students League* of New York. The Associated American Artists* (AAA) soon commissioned him under an exclusive seven-year contract. He regularly exhibited at the AAA gallery until 1955, and also showed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1952, he assisted painter Jose Vela Zanetti...

Talavera Mural Azulejo Tile Folk Contemporary Mexican Ceramic Blue White Mosaic
By Cesar
Located in Queretaro, Queretaro
This contemporary azulejo tile forms a mosaic perfect for kitchen decorations or any exterior space. Made with the Talavera technique. Artist, Cesar Torres portraits the colonial art of Mexico, but this time with a contemporary touch. This wall decoration can be arranged to fit specific spaces or simply hanged as a painting on the wall. The Talavera is not just a simple painted ceramic: its exquisite decoration is the product of a delicate process of alchemy that translates into fine enamels. In Puebla, Mexico few people still produce using Talavera with the ancestral techniques. One of those few is Cesar Torres, Don Cesar learned his art in the workshop of the Uriarte family, an excellent workshop where his grandfather worked. In his creations he uses the black and white mud that is obtained from the nearby hills of Loreto and Guadalupe, and colors of mineral origin that he creates in his workshop with recipes from his grandfather. All the pieces are modeled in a traditional way and go through a production process that usually takes from one to two months, between drying, burning, and painting. Being surrounded by a living tradition, Cesar Torres Jr., learned from his father since childhood. Architect by profession, Cesar Jr. has come to revolutionize and modernize with new designs and ideas of the current world, nevertheless always respecting the tradition of the processes and materials that make Talavera a Creole art...
