About the Item

Important oil on copper painting attributed to the great Baroque artist of the Emilian area Flaminio Torri. The iconography of this beautiful work, clearly illustrates to us that the subject portrayed is St. John the Evangelist whose hallmarks are the book and the eagle. This artwork, never before on the market, comes from an important European private collection. Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts. Flaminio Torri (Bologna, May 19, 1620 - Modena, August 6, 1661) was an Italian painter. A pupil of Giacomo Cavedoni first and Simone Cantarini later, on the latter's death he inherited his workshop along with Lorenzo Pasinelli. He worked in his early years in Bologna, producing the Adoration of the Magi in the Museum of San Giuseppe and the Deposition by Nightlight in the Pinacoteca Nazionale. Among the most significant of his public works is the altarpiece Sant'Antonio e il Bambino Gesù in the Church of the Osservanza in Imola. His private commissions, for which he executed numerous sacred families and half-figures of various subjects, include several versions of the St. Francis in Ecstasy, the Holy Family in Dresden, a Madonna and Child in the Amata Collection, and a series of canvases preserved in the Pallavicini Gallery. Later the painter moved to Modena in the service of Alfonso IV d'Este with the post of superintendent of collections. This artwork is shipped from Rome.
