About the Item
Antique Italian painting from the mid-17th century. Oil on canvas artwork, first canvas, depicting a biblical episode of great charm, Herod's banquet, of excellent pictorial quality. The scene takes place within a monumental architecture where we find Herod at the center of the composition and a page who offers him the head of John the Baptist. In the foreground we recognize Salome who dances to obtain the head of the Saint as a prize while all around maids and splendid musicians accompany the scene. Painting of beautiful size and pleasant impact, full of characters and details finely crafted by the expert hands of the painter. Canvas that has an inscription on the back (see photo). Painting that develops horizontally, ideal for a living room or study, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of ancient paintings. Painting that has undergone a light conservative restoration with recovery of color in small spots, in a beautiful patina. Artwork overall in good condition.
