About the Item

Antique Italian painting from the late 17th/early 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting Christ with angels and symbols of the Passion, crafted with excellent craftsmanship. The painting is adorned with a modern carved and gilded wooden frame with a velvet mat. This small painting is ideal for antique dealers and collectors of ancient sacred art. It features a plaque on the front attributing it to the famous Bolognese painter Marcantonio Franceschini (1648-1729), but no additional documentation is available. The painting's composition and the figure of Christ are very similar to the famous painting Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane by the circle of Guido Reni. The painting currently lacks an art historical expertise, which can be requested at the time of purchase (service fee not included in the price; contact us for a quote). The painting has undergone conservative restoration, relining, replacement of the stretcher, and restoration of the color in some areas (see photo). Overall, the painting is in good condition. Once upon a time there was a farmer who fraudulently administered his master's assets. Before being fired, he tries to recover part of the credits by making important discounts to creditors, who will be grateful to him. The master, instead of condemning this behavior which is detrimental to him, praises the cunning of the farmer. This story is meant to urge believers to do whatever is necessary before the imminent arrival of the Kingdom of God and its judgment.
