About the Item

18th Century, Italian Pair of Paintings on Glass in Giltwood Frames This exquisite pair of paintings executed on glass is presented within finely carved and gilded wooden mirrors dating back to the mid-18th century, crafted in Piemonte, Italy. The two paintings depict the biblical subjects of Saint Paul fed by the raven and the Baptism of Christ. The difficulty of painting on glass lies in the different brush flow on the smooth glass surface compared to canvas, and the execution must be done in reverse and symmetry. Thus, the painting is protected by the glass itself, which is inserted within the frame. Stylistically, the artist, who demonstrates a confident artistic skill, is likely to be found among the artists active in the Piemonte area in the 18th century, and most likely drew inspiration from engravings for the study of the two compositions. Currently, art-historical studies are underway. The works are particularly decorative and pleasing, both for the brightness of the gilded frame and the saturated, vibrant color palette used by the artist. In good condition, it should be noted that the glass of the painting depicting Saint Paul has been enlarged to fit the profile of the frame and later completed with painting.

18th Century, Pair of Italian Neoclassical Grisaille Tempera on Paper Paintings
Located in IT
18th Century, Pair of Italian Neoclassical Grisaille Tempera on Paper Paintings This pair of tempera paintings on paper, was made in Piedmont, Italy, in the neoclassical era, towards the end of the eighteenth century. Each painting, with a blue grey background, is decorated with elements reminiscent of the grotesques, characteristic of neoclassicism, grisaille paintings, or with the use of the color of white and gray to simulate sculptures in bas-relief in marble or stucco. At the center of each painting stands a classic vase decorated with garlands and frames with vegetable elements, taken with goat heads with long horns. The vase is adorned with a floral decoration topped by a long vertical element that simulates a stand. Along the axis are woven garlands foliated in the center of which are represented ovoid bas-reliefs. The base of the lift, of classical and circular taste, supports two swans with outstretched wings and ends with a small circular podgy element. In the lower part of the vase is depicted a horizontal element that supports a precious folded fabric, decorated with filigree and trimmings at the edges, behind which protrudes a flowered garland. These two particular paintings are very decorative and elegant and are suitable to be exhibited alongside other works in any environment, also in boiserie. Very beautiful in copy, interspersed with other decorative objects, placed above seats, consoles, drawers, in living rooms, studies, bedrooms, corridors and entrances. Conceptually very modern, and suitable for both antique and contemporary furniture. In good condition, the paintings are presented using wooden panels...
