About the Item

Large original oil on canvas painting of Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well (based on Biblical passage from John 4). Just under 7' tall with frame. Has craquelure, retouches and old repairs throughout; including along left side and crack to canvas at lower left corner and old repair running vertical along right 1/3 of canvas. Canvas is dark and will benefit from cleaning which we leave to the discretion of buyer. Frame shows typical age-related wear with some scuffs, scratches and stains, etc. Strong/stable and ready to be hung. Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition, and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting all impact how item is viewed. Antique Italian painting from the 17th century. Artwork oil on canvas depicting a particular religious subject, the Parable of the unfaithful farmer. Once upon a time there was a farmer who fraudulently administered his master's assets. Before being fired, he tries to recover part of the credits by making important discounts to creditors, who will be grateful to him. The master, instead of condemning this behavior which is detrimental to him, praises the cunning of the farmer. This story is meant to urge believers to do whatever is necessary before the imminent arrival of the Kingdom of God and its judgment. Painting that develops vertically adorned with a wooden frame not coeval carved, lacquered and gilded.
