About the Item
A wonderful still-life by French painter Rodolpe Fogé (1890-1976). He lived and worked in the Alsace region in north-eastern France and is mostly known for his local landscape paintings. This rare still-life is according to the typewriter label on its back (see photo) called "Nature morte au bougeoir" (Still-life by the candle). The label seems to be from an inventory when the artist lived at the address 30, Faubourg de Pierre in Strasbourg, France. This is apparently painting number 18.
The painting is signed in the lower right corner (see photo). The exact date of its realization is unknown but the painting has most likely been made in the 1920s/30s. It is still framed in its original, linen lined frame, very typical for the period.
In good vintage condition. The painting, nor the frame, have been cleaned, I leave that decision up to the new owner. Minor signs of wear consistent with age and use, mostly on the frame. The stretched canvas is in good condition.
