About the Item
A dramatic original oil on canvas by listed Greek / American artist Alain Scordilis (1930-1997). The painting depicts a harlequin in a fitted rose colored outfit with a long cap and a mustard yellow starburst ruff playing a tiorbino, set against an abstract blue background suggestive of Venice with a gondola and bridge.
Alain Achilles Scordilis born in Athens, Greece, in 1930 and raised in France, Scordilis started selling his art work at the age of 7. Throughout his life, he traveled extensively, living in Haiti, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia, spending long periods of time in Brazil and Argentina before retiring to south Florida. A self described romantic surrealist, he often claimed to be a “citizen of the world”, proudly stating “I have lived my entire life supported by my pencil”.
