About the Item
A sumptuous mid-20th century oil on board by Russian painter Aleksander Gusarevich (1908-1970). Entitled "Fishing Day", circa 1960, it is signed A Gusarevich. It is framed in a high quality walnut frame.

This engaging fishing scene is depicted with free brushstrokes and a refined palette. Two figures sit near a boat on a river, against a wooded hillside backdrop.
The tall, sunlit trees dwarf the fishermen and are reflected in the water, creating a sense of overwhelming nature.
Biography: Aleksander Andreievich Gusarevich (1908-1970). Painter and graphic artist. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Born in 1908 in Vitebsk, into a family of clergy. He received his primary education at the Vitebsk Theological Seminary. Studied at the advanced training department for artists at the Moscow Art Institute (1936-1941) under B. V. Ioganson and L. Yu. He subsequently lived and worked in Moscow. He made many paintings on themes of socialist construction and the fight against fascism. The Lenin Library acquired 30 of his war drawings. He painted numerous pictures on the theme of nature. He is exhibited in various museums of the USSR, including the Museum of the Revolution of the USSR, the Shushensky Art Gallery, the Pskov Museum, regional museums, and museums in Moscow.
