About the Item
A bucolic
sensitively rendered Barbizon School pastoral landscape depicting a lone figure shepherding a flock of sheep down a dusk lit country road.
Although signed illegibly, this work was obviously executed by an accomplished hand as evidenced by its perspective, composition and deliberate application, all closely associated with works in the manner of 19th century French artist Leon Richet (1847-1907).
Oil on canvas laid down on board, signed illegibly bottom left and set within a fine period giltwood frame.
Panel dimensions: 9.5" high x 12.5" wide, frame dimensions 17.75" high x 20.25" wide x 2.75" deep.
