19th Century English oil painting highland cattle lake on canvas Wm Langley. Direct from England, this beautiful original oil on canvas, by British artist William Langley. The gorgeous landscape features a herd of Highland cattle watering at a Loch, (perhaps Lomond) with Scottish Highland mountains in the background. The painting is artist signed, William Langley, a 19th century British landscape painter, whose favorite subjects were scenes of the Scottish Highlands often featuring cattle An old gold gilt frame houses the canvas (with stretchers) and also includes an old paper label on the back from Brighton, UK. Beautiful, original art, and a wonderful find for any collector of pastoral scenes or of Scottish landscapes. Circa late 1800s. Measurements: 15.75” height. x 23.75”x 1.5”. Canvas is 12” height. x 20”. An excerpt from " Hidden Talents: A Dictionary of Neglected Artists Working 1880-1950 " (Jeremy Wood, England) notes in reference to Langley: 'Painter in oil of rural landscapes and coastal scenes, the subjects of this prolific artist included views in Cornwall, the South of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Among the titles of known works are 'On the Lledr', 'Wee Bridge, Killarney', 'In the Glen', and 'Sunshine after Rain, a Village in the Thames'. The work shows a distinct similarity to that of several artists working at the time and the signature could possibly be a pseudonym. Good condition for its age, normal signs of age, use, dings, scratches, imperfections. Small thin spot to canvas on left side, hard to see as it’s in the green tree foliage. Included multiple photos should be considered as part of the description.
