About the Item

Stunning oil painting on canvas, probably created by a talented Florentine artist active in the 19th century. The work is clearly inspired by the famous painting by the famous painter Guido Reni and depicts the sacrifice of Cleopatra. In the representation, the queen is portrayed in a suggestive way, with her chest uncovered and half naked, while she holds a small asp in her hand, a symbol of her imminent sacrifice. The expression on Cleopatra's face evocatively recalls the suffering and the tragic decision that she is about to make. The artist demonstrated remarkable skill in the attention to detail and in rendering the realism of the work, giving a vivid and engaging appearance to the scene. The painting is contained within a golden frame which further embellishes the painting. Measurements: HxWxD 93 x 75 x 6cm.
